To start off the Read Dead news, fans of RDR2's awesome music will be happy to know that Rockstar dropped a tweet announcing that The Music of Read Dead Redemption 2 is coming this Spring, "featuring both the Original Score composed by Woody Jackson; and the Original Soundtrack produced by Daniel Lanois feat D'Angelo, Willie Nelson, Rhiannon Giddens and more."
Rockstar Games also announced that next week what seems to be a pretty substantial update is coming to the Read Dead Online Beta. On Tuesday, February 26th, "the Red Dead Online Beta frontier expands with all new Free Roam Events, a host of new Showdown Modes, and new Races coming as part of its first title update..." New weapons, the Evans Repeater rifle and the Rare Shotgun, and a slew of new clothing items will be added to the game via the good 'ol Catalogue which will also now feature "unique special items that will come and go." Other additions include myriad emotes, fishing challenges, the Fool's Gold Free Roam Event, Target Races, and overall quality of life improvements and balancing. Fishing challenges are exactly what they sound like, Fool's Gold is kind of like king of hill wherein the hill is instead a wearable shiny golden suit of armor, and Target Races involve shooting targets from horseback and going through checkpoints. PlayStation gets some early access to even more clothing and emotes, the Jawbone Knife melee weapon, and another variant of the Target Races where the checkpoints aren't part of the equation. And until this update goes live on the 26th, players will receive 20% extra XP across all activities for the Read Dead Online Beta.
It's good to see Rockstar continuing to produce content and listening to their players. The Dat Click Doe squad might get into RDO if Rockstar maintains and progresses it as they have with GTA Online-- they've certainly shown their capable of building something great when they get the foundation right.
